The Capital Area YMCA is committed to strengthening communities through programs that promote youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. A key part of this mission is ensuring that individuals of all ages have access to life-saving water safety education and high-quality aquatics training.

Through its Safety Around Water program, the Capital Area YMCA equips children with essential skills to stay safe in and around water. These lessons focus on building confidence, teaching basic swimming abilities, and helping participants understand how to respond in emergency situations. By removing barriers to access, the YMCA works to reduce drowning risks and ensure that every child has the opportunity to learn these critical skills.

In addition, the Capital Area YMCA serves as a Red Cross Certified Lifeguard Training Facility, providing comprehensive training for those pursuing lifeguarding certification. Participants receive instruction in water rescue techniques, CPR/AED, first aid, and emergency response, all aligned with American Red Cross standards. This program prepares individuals to respond effectively in aquatic environments while promoting a culture of safety and preparedness.

Together, these initiatives reflect the Capital Area YMCA’s dedication to water safety, community education, and developing confident, capable individuals both in and out of the water.
